Analyzing the Impact of the Binance Women in Technology Academy in Hatay

The devastating earthquakes that hit Turkey on February 6 left a trail of destruction in its wake. In response to this disaster, the Binance Women in Technology Academy, in collaboration with the Women in Technology Association (Wtech), decided to shift its focus towards the province of Hatay, which was significantly affected by the earthquakes.

Empowering Young Women

The Academy organized a two-day program on March 26-27 in Hatay’s Antakya district, with the aim of empowering young female university students in the earthquake zone. The program focused on providing these women with essential skills and knowledge for navigating the Web3 world. From financial literacy to blockchain technology, artificial intelligence, NFTs, and cybersecurity, the initiative covered a broad range of topics to equip the students for the future.

Driving Gender Equality in Technology

The broader mission of the Binance Women in Technology Academy is to increase women’s representation in crypto, blockchain, and Web3. By doing so, they aim to enhance Turkey’s technological and economic standing while also combating gender inequality within the industry. The Academy, launched in 2024, recently celebrated its first graduating cohort, marking a significant milestone in their journey.

Zehra Öney, the Founding Chair of the Women in Technology Association, highlighted the association’s goals and the impact of their efforts post-earthquake. She emphasized the importance of training competent individuals in the field of technology and increasing the number of women in the workplace, production processes, and entrepreneurship.

Educational Empowerment

The decision to shift the program’s focus to Hatay after the earthquake demonstrates a commitment to not only immediate disaster response but also long-term educational empowerment. By welcoming 80 female university students in the region, the Academy is setting the stage for these young women to thrive in the tech industry.

Ambitious Goals

Harika Eldoğan, Binance’s Marketing Director for Turkey, shared insights into the Academy’s ambitions during the recent graduation ceremony. The Academy aims to educate 5,000 women over the next five years, with a focus on expanding the tech ecosystem in Turkey. Eldoğan emphasized the importance of including young people and women in this ecosystem, supporting their journey towards financial freedom and development.

Beyond its educational initiatives, the Binance Women in Technology Academy also focuses on community building. Through the program, women working in different fields can come together, connect, and share knowledge and experiences. This aspect of the Academy highlights the importance of creating a supportive network for women in technology.

The Binance Women in Technology Academy’s impact in Hatay is profound. By empowering young women with essential skills and knowledge, driving gender equality in technology, and fostering community building, the Academy is making a difference in the lives of these students. As they continue their journey to educate and empower women in the tech industry, the future looks promising for the women of Turkey.
